Caring for your Nida abaya
Start with the label
Every abaya comes with a care label, and that is always the best guide. The tips below are general and gentle, to help your Nida abaya stay soft and graceful for longer.
Washing
- Wash gently, ideally by hand or on a delicate cycle if the label allows.
- Use cool water and a mild detergent.
- Wash dark colours separately, especially the first few times.
- Turn embellished abayas inside out to protect embroidery, lace and pearl trim.
Drying
- Avoid wringing hard; gently press out water instead.
- Hang to dry in the shade, as strong sun can fade rich colours over time.
- Use a padded or wide hanger so the shoulders keep their shape.
Ironing and steaming
- Nida usually drapes smoothly, but if needed, use a low heat setting or a steamer.
- Iron on the reverse side, and never press directly on embroidery, lace or pearls.
Storing
- Hang your abaya rather than folding it tightly, to avoid creases.
- Keep occasion pieces in a breathable garment cover.
